During the week from 2024-01-01 to 2024-01-07, the Service Juridique handled a total of 18 consultations through the available communication channel, which was Telegram. The consultations covered a range of topics pertinent to consumer rights and protection.
In five instances, consumers sought advice on issues related to failure to provide mandatory information. In these cases, we guided the consumers on how to access the necessary information through direct contact with the vendors, suggesting formal written requests that cite pertinent consumer protection laws mandating the disclosure of such information.
Five consultations involved e-commerce/distance selling. Consumers reported various issues, including delayed deliveries and contract terms. We advised them to carefully review the terms and conditions laid out at the point of sale and to assert their rights regarding delivery expectations and cancellation policies in accordance with EU regulations.
With regards to GPDR, four consumers expressed concerns about personal data management by businesses. Our counsel provided them with directions on how to request data access reports and the procedure to follow if they wish to lodge a complaint regarding data mishandling. We emphasized the importance of understanding their rights to data protection under the overarching EU legal framework.
Finally, in four cases, the discussions centered around the right to repair. Consumers expressed confusion about whether specific products fell under this directive. We clarified the criteria that determine such eligibility and recommended approaching the manufacturers for further clarification and enforcement if necessary.
There was one instance where the counseling unfortunately could not proceed as the issue concerned taxation, a matter outside the scope of our services. The individual was advised to seek expert advice from the taxation authorities or a qualified tax consultant.
Throughout the week, the consultations were focused on empowering consumers with accurate information and actionable advice pertinent to their individual circumstances, ensuring compliance with established European consumer rights directives.
