During the week from April 1, 2024, to April 7, 2024, the Service Juridique provided consumer consultations through various communication channels including e-mail, telegram, and phone. Throughout this period, a total of 24 consultations were conducted, addressing a range of consumer issues.
A notable portion of the consultations focused on travelers’ rights related to train travel. In seven cases, consumers sought guidance on compensation claims due to delays and cancellations. Individuals were advised on how to file claims directly with train operators and were informed about the requisite documentation needed to support their claims effectively.
The topic of the right to repair was another significant area of interest, addressed in five separate consultations. Consumers expressed concerns regarding the availability of parts for electronic devices and home appliances. We provided information about their rights under current EU regulations, emphasizing their entitlement to repair services and spare parts from manufacturers for a reasonable period after purchase.
Regarding GDPR, there were four consultations where individuals were concerned about data privacy issues. In these instances, consumers were advised on how to request data access from companies, as well as the steps to take if they believed there had been a breach of their data rights.
E-commerce and distance selling was a recurring topic, covered in eight consultations. Consumers reported issues such as misleading product descriptions and delayed deliveries. We provided advice on the applicable EU distance selling regulations, guiding consumers on how to exercise their rights to withdraw from a purchase and request refunds.
In rare cases, our consultations identified issues that extended beyond our scope, such as questions related to taxation. Such inquiries were not pursued further, as they did not fall within the remit of consumer protection under our mandate. Overall, the consultations provided vital support to the consumers, empowering them with knowledge and a clear course of action to address their concerns effectively.
