During the week of December 2nd to December 8th, 2024, the Service Juridique handled a total of 23 consumer consultations. These consultations were conducted through various communication channels, with e-mail being the most frequently used, accounting for 15 consultations. In 5 cases a messenger was used, while mastodon was utilized in 3 cases.
The primary topics addressed during this week were largely centered around GPDR, pseudo medicine/health (not related to food), and unfair practice (cold calling). In 9 cases, queries related to GPDR regulations were prominent. Consumers were advised on how to safeguard their personal data and the steps necessary to file a complaint against any unauthorized use of their information.
Issues related to pseudo medicine/health were also prevalent, with 7 consultations focused on this subject. Consumers were guided on identifying misleading health claims and advised on how to report fraudulent practices to appropriate consumer protection authorities within the EU framework.
Unfair practices such as cold calling emerged in 6 consultations. The guidance provided focused on steps to register with opt-out services to prevent unsolicited calls and how to document incidents for further action if necessary.
Rarely, consultations fell outside the scope of our services, as was the case in one instance involving a non-EU consumer protection issue. This particular case could not be addressed due to jurisdictional limitations.
The week concluded with all pertinent issues being addressed within our service scope, and consumers were equipped with the knowledge and resources to pursue their concerns further.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
