During the week from March 17, 2025, to March 23, 2025, the Service Juridique handled a series of consultations related to consumer protection issues via the messenger communication channel. The consultations involved various topics, reflecting the broad spectrum of consumer concerns.
There were a total of 18 consultations conducted over the week. One of the more frequently addressed topics was warranty on consumer goods, which appeared in eight different consultations. Consumers primarily inquired about the duration and conditions of warranties, as well as the process to follow in case of a defect within the warranty period. Our advice was to thoroughly review warranty terms provided at the point of sale and to follow the outlined procedure to claim repairs or replacements.
In six instances, consumers sought guidance on issues related to pseudo medicine and non-food health products. Concerns were raised about the legitimacy and safety of certain products that claimed various health benefits without substantial scientific backing. Consumers were advised to exercise caution and to verify claims with official health and regulatory bodies.
Consultations concerning travelers’ rights, especially pertaining to train travel, were part of four cases. Travelers faced challenges related to delays and cancellations. The guidance provided included informing them of their rights to compensation and the appropriate channels to file a claim with relevant transport providers.
Additionally, border controls while commuting to or from work was a less frequently discussed topic, arising in three consultations. Concerns mainly revolved around delays and potential discrimination. The advice given stressed awareness of official guidelines and documentation required for cross-border commutes, as well as the importance of understanding legal rights during checks.
On one occasion, the consultation involved a topic outside of our focus, specifically regarding real estate taxation, which falls beyond the purview of the Service Juridique.
The consultations offered this week reflect the diverse nature of consumer issues and the importance of guiding citizens in understanding and exercising their rights within the EU framework.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang.
