During the week of June 9 to June 15, 2025, the Service Juridique provided a total of 20 consultations to consumers seeking advice on various issues. The primary channels of communication utilized for these consultations included telegram, messenger, and video calls. The preferred method of contact was messenger, accounting for the majority of interactions, followed by video calls, and lastly, telegram.
The topics discussed ranged widely, reflecting the diverse challenges faced by consumers. In seven instances, issues related to the warranty on consumer goods were brought forward. Consumers were advised to ensure they retained proof of purchase and to clearly communicate with vendors regarding warranty terms, emphasizing the importance of understanding the duration and scope of the warranty provided.
Travelers’ rights was another frequent subject, particularly concerning package holidays and air travel. In five cases, consumers sought clarification on compensation entitlements due to cancellations and delays. Our advice centered on the need to maintain all travel documentation and to formally request compensation through the appropriate channels as detailed in EU regulations.
In four consultations, issues of pricing transparency were discussed. Consumers were encouraged to always request detailed billing and to question any charges that seemed unclear or unjustified. They were also advised to report any instances where pricing discrepancies appeared deliberate or misleading.
Consultations on food supplements and health claims also featured prominently. In three instances, individuals sought advice concerning misleading health benefit claims. We advised consumers to critically evaluate the claims made and to rely on evidence-based information provided by reputable sources.
Finally, banking and GDPR concerns were addressed in two separate consultations each. Consumers were reminded of their rights concerning data protection under GDPR, particularly regarding consent and the ability to access personal data held by organizations. In banking-related queries, advice was given on understanding terms and conditions, with an emphasis on vigilance against unfair terms and conditions.
On one occasion, the consultation did not fall within the scope of our agency. The issue involved real estate taxation, which is outside the purview of our consumer protection mandate. We regrettedly informed the consumer of this limitation.
Overall, the week was marked by a variety of consumer issues, underlining the ongoing need for accessible and effective consumer advice within the EU. The Service Juridique remains committed to providing support and clarity on these essential consumer rights issues.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang.
