The week from June 23, 2025, to June 29, 2025, observed a range of consumer consultations conducted by the Service Juridique via video call, addressing key issues pertinent to consumer rights and protections.
During this period, a total of eighteen consultations were successfully carried out. The predominant topic of inquiry was unfair practice (cold calling), addressed in ten instances. Consumers were primarily advised on recognizing unauthorized telemarketing attempts and the appropriate steps to report such encounters to pertinent bodies where action could be taken to mitigate these unsolicited communications.
Another critical topic was GDPR, raised in six consultations. Consumers sought clarity concerning their personal data rights, particularly in cases where data had been collected or used without explicit consent. The guidance provided involved understanding the scope of their rights under the GDPR and how to formally request the cessation of data use or removal from company databases. Emphasis was placed on actionable steps such as drafting and sending formal requests to companies suspected of GDPR violations.
The topic of right to repair was discussed in four consultations. Consumers were often found seeking advice on their rights concerning appliance repairs and understanding manufacturers’ obligations under the current regulations. The consultations focused on explaining the rights to access spare parts and information necessary for repair, as well as navigating dialogues with manufacturers or retailers who might not initially comply with these obligations.
In one instance, the nature of the query fell outside the scope of our jurisdiction, as it tackled an issue related to real estate rent disputes, an area not typically covered under our consumer protection mandate.
Throughout the week, the consultations provided critical guidance to consumers, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and resources to address and rectify issues pertaining to their rights within the EU. Each interaction was tailored to meet the specific needs of the consumer while ensuring alignment with the overarching regulatory framework.
