Weekly Report, 2025-08-25 to 2025-08-31

During the week from August 25 to August 31, 2025, the Service Juridique engaged in a number of consumer consultations concerning various consumer protection issues. The channels utilized for these consultations included Reddit, phone, e-mail, video call, and messenger, allowing us to reach a broad section of the public.

This week, we handled a total of 14 consultations. Among the reviewed cases, travelers’ rights pertaining to package holidays emerged as a prevalent topic. In nine cases, consumers raised concerns about the mishandling of package holidays, often related to cancellations and insufficient compensation. In these instances, we provided advice on the specific rights guaranteed under EU regulations, including the entitlement to refunds and the right to adequate assistance during unexpected travel disruptions.

Additionally, the topic of warranty on consumer goods was discussed extensively. Six cases this week involved warranty disputes, where consumers faced resistance from retailers in honoring the legal guarantee. Our counsel guided these individuals on the stipulations of warranty laws in the EU, outlining the procedural steps necessary to assert their right to repair, replacement, or refund within the warranty period.

There was one instance in which the consultation did not proceed to a resolution. The issue presented involved real estate taxation, which falls outside the scope of our consumer watchdog operations and thus could not be addressed within our service framework.

This week’s consultations illustrate the ongoing need for consumer education regarding their rights under EU law. The Service Juridique remains committed to providing accurate and relevant advice to all individuals seeking assistance, ensuring they are well-informed and able to advocate effectively for their rights.

This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
