Weekly Report, 2025-09-15 to 2025-09-21

From September 15 to September 21, 2025, the Service Juridique handled a total of 18 consultations regarding various consumer issues within the EU. The consultations were conducted through different communication channels, including telegram, messenger, and phone.

During this week, a significant portion of the inquiries involved travelers’ rights (air travel), with seven consultations addressing issues such as flight delays, cancellations, and baggage mismanagement. Consumers were advised on their rights to compensation and the procedures for filing a complaint with the airline.

Four consultations focused on failure to provide mandatory information, where customers did not receive essential product details, such as ingredients or safety instructions. In these cases, the consumers were informed about their rights to clear and accurate information and advised to contact the company directly to request the missing details.

There were three inquiries related to (inadmissible) health claims (with relation to food). Consumers expressed concerns over misleading health claims on product packaging. They were advised to report potentially misleading information to the relevant regulatory bodies, who oversee compliance with advertising standards.

Two cases involved complaints about health claims (in food), where consumers required clarification of the legitimacy of certain claims on dietary products. The Service Juridique provided guidance on how to interpret these claims and which regulatory standards apply.

Two consumers sought advice about potential complications due to Border controls while commuting to or from work in cross-border regions. The consultations included guidance on understanding the legal framework and their rights pertaining to smooth cross-border travel within the EU.

Overall, the Service Juridique was able to provide effective guidance within the scope of EU consumer protection laws. There was only one instance where the consultation had to be concluded without resolution, as the issue presented did not fall within the jurisdiction of EU consumer mandates but concerned matters irrelevant to our agency’s focus.

This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
