During the week of December 22 to December 28, 2025, the Service Juridique addressed a range of consumer issues through various communication channels, ensuring that consumer rights within the EU were adequately represented and protected. The primary modes of communication utilized for consultations this week included phone, mastodon, reddit, and messenger. In total, we handled 18 consultations, each presenting unique challenges and opportunities for advocacy.
In particular, the topic of pseudo medicine/health not related to food was a significant area of concern. We encountered five cases where consumers were misled by dubious health products, and they were advised on how to identify legitimate health information and avoid fraudulent products. With regards to the right to repair, this week saw four instances where consumers sought guidance on accessing repairs for electronic devices. They were informed about their rights to have products repaired and how to navigate manufacturer policies.
The banking sector also garnered attention, with four inquiries focusing on unclear charges and banking obligations. Consumers were provided with information on how to approach financial institutions for explanations and were educated on the importance of transparency regarding banking fees. The subject of health claims in food was discussed in three cases, where misleading labeling and advertising were the main issues. Consumers were advised to scrutinize product labels and given tips on understanding verified health claims.
In two instances, the issues fell outside the remit of our consumer protection focus. One involved a complaint about real estate rental policies, and another concerned tax regulation inquiries. Consumers were gently informed that these matters were beyond the scope of a consumer watchdog’s jurisdiction.
This week’s consultations reflect our ongoing commitment to advocating for consumer rights and providing clear, actionable advice. Though each interaction is distinct, our objective remains consistent: equip consumers with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate the complex landscape of consumer rights.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
