During the week from 2025-10-06 to 2025-10-12, the Service Juridique provided a total of 18 consultations to consumers seeking assistance on various issues affecting their rights. The consultations were conducted through multiple communication channels including e-mail, phone, and video calls, ensuring accessibility and convenience for the consumers.
Among the inquiries, we had seven cases that involved questions related to the GDPR. Consumers were primarily concerned about their data privacy and rights under the new regulations. In each case, we advised them on the specific steps they can take to request information from companies about their data usage and how to file complaints with the appropriate data protection authorities if necessary.
Five consultations dealt with concerns regarding warranty on consumer goods. Consumers were guided on how to assert their rights, emphasizing the importance of documenting their communications with retailers and understanding the time limits for making warranty claims.
We encountered four cases where consumers reported unfair practices, specifically the exerting of undue pressure by sellers. Our advice focused on identifying the characteristics of such practices and recommended documenting all interactions as evidence, alongside considering options for mediation or legal action if the practices continued.
In three instances, there were questions about banking issues. Consumers faced problems related to unauthorized transactions and delays in processing refunds. We informed them of their rights under the EU payment services directive and guided them through the process of lodging a formal complaint with their banks.
There were two consultations concerning inadmissible health claims related to food products. Consumers were advised to critically assess marketing materials and report any misleading claims to the relevant national consumer protection bodies for further investigation.
Notably, there was one case where the consultation could not proceed as the issue was outside our jurisdiction, specifically relating to taxation in non-EU territories.
Throughout these consultations, our focus remained on empowering consumers with the necessary information to make informed decisions and take proactive steps in asserting their rights.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Maas-Rhein.
