During the week from 2025-11-24 to 2025-11-30, the Service Juridique provided consultations on various issues related to consumer rights. Over this period, a total of 17 consultations were conducted via different communication channels, including reddit, messenger, e-mail, and video call. Each medium provided consumers with direct access to our services, ensuring their inquiries were addressed promptly and efficiently.
This week, e-commerce/distance selling emerged as a significant topic of concern, with five individuals requesting guidance on issues surrounding online purchases. Consumers were advised on their rights to return items within a specified period and the obligations of sellers to provide clear and comprehensible information before and after a transaction. Additionally, in four separate cases, concerns were raised regarding unfair practice (exerting of pressure). Here, we advised consumers about recognizing and responding to aggressive commercial practices that infringe upon their decision-making freedom.
Issues related to GPDR drew attention from three individuals seeking understanding of their rights concerning personal data protection. We clarified the appropriate steps they should take when they suspect misuse of their data, emphasizing their right to request data access or deletion under the GDPR regulations. Furthermore, there were two consultations centered on banking, where consumers inquired about their rights regarding unauthorized transactions and the resolution mechanisms available through financial institutions.
One consultation involved travelers’ rights (package holiday), where we guided the consumer on options available when confronted with significant alterations to their travel itinerary and their entitlement to refunds or alternative arrangements. In another instance, a query was raised about food supplements, advising on how to verify claims made by manufacturers and ensuring that such products meet established safety standards.
In one rare occurrence, a request pertained to real estate taxation, which lies outside our scope of operation, and was therefore not addressed in detail. Overall, the week was marked by a diverse array of topics, each reinforcing the importance of informed and empowered consumers in the EU marketplace.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Maas-Rhein.
