Weekly Report, 2026-06-01 to 2026-06-07

During the week of June 1 to June 7, 2026, the Service Juridique handled a total of 17 consultations concerning consumer issues via Telegram and Messenger platforms. The predominant topics of discussion during this period were e-commerce/distance selling and unfair general terms and conditions.

Out of these, 11 consultations were focused on e-commerce/distance selling matters. Consumers raised concerns regarding deceptive descriptions and delays in delivery. They were advised on their rights to cancel and obtain refunds under the EU directives governing distance selling. Moreover, guidance was provided on how to properly document communications with sellers to streamline potential disputes.

In eight instances, discussions revolved around unfair general terms and conditions. The primary issues included hidden fees and unilateral changes to contract terms. The affected consumers were informed about their rights to fairness in contract terms as set forth by EU consumer protection laws. They were encouraged to challenge such terms by directly contacting the sellers and, if necessary, prepare to escalate the issue through formal complaint mechanisms.

There was one notable case where the counseling could not proceed satisfactorily as it involved concerns related to real estate, which falls outside the scope of our consumer watchdog mandate. The individual was informed that the issue at hand was not within our remit.

Throughout all consultations, an emphasis was placed on equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge to address their issues directly and effectively with sellers, ensuring that they are empowered to secure their rights within the parameters set by European Union consumer protection guidelines.

This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Maas-Rhein.
