Weekly Report, 2024-03-18 to 2024-03-24

The week of March 18th to March 24th, 2024, was notably busy for our Service Juridique team as we addressed a variety of consumer protection issues. A total of 17 consultations were conducted using available communication channels, which included video calls, e-mail, and telegram. These consultations covered multiple aspects of consumer rights and provided guidance to individuals seeking assistance.

Throughout the week, unfair business practices (not specified) were discussed in nine different consultations. Consumers in these cases were advised to gather detailed documentation of their interactions with businesses and to formally request rectification from the respective businesses using registered mail to ensure a documented trail. Additionally, they were informed of their right to escalate the matter in certain situations through small claims courts if necessary.

Furthermore, issues regarding unfair business practices (blacklisted) emerged in five instances. In these consultations, consumers were informed about the specific practices that are considered unlawful under EU regulations. They were encouraged to cease further engagement with the businesses practicing such conduct and to retain copies of all related correspondences. Service Juridique further explained the potential for collective action if similar grievances were expressed by multiple consumers against the same entity.

There were three consultations where the submitted issues fell outside the remit of our focus. In one particular case, the topic concerned a dispute over real estate rent, which is outside the consumer protection scope of our agency. Unfortunately, these cases could not be pursued further with the Service Juridique, and consumers were recommended to seek advice from professionals specializing in those particular legal areas.

The consultations this week underline the consistent need for vigilance and awareness regarding consumer rights, especially concerning fair business practices. Our team remains committed to advising and empowering consumers with the necessary information and resources to address and resolve their issues effectively.

This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
