From the week commencing 2024-06-03 to 2024-06-09, the Service Juridique provided consumer advice through multiple channels, primarily utilizing phone and reddit. Throughout the week, we engaged in a total of 21 consultations addressing various consumer concerns.
The most frequent issue encountered was related to unfair practice (misleading information or statement). In seven instances, consumers were advised on how to identify misleading claims and were encouraged to document any false information provided by businesses to support future verification efforts. Additionally, in four cases, the focus was on unfair practice (exerting of pressure). Clients were guided on recognizing aggressive tactics and were urged to maintain records of such practices to aid in potential disputes.
Another common topic this week was travelers’ rights (air travel). On five occasions, consumers sought advice regarding difficulties faced with airlines. Service Juridique informed these consumers about the existing EU regulations protecting air travelers and advised them to assert their rights by submitting formal complaints through established channels if necessary.
Issues concerning food supplements were addressed in three consultations where clients raised queries about product claims and safety. Consumers were counseled to verify label information against EU standards and to report any suspicions of non-compliance to relevant bodies.
Consultations involving pseudo medicine/health (not related to food) occurred twice during the week. Consumers were counseled on the lack of scientific evidence supporting certain products and advised to exercise caution when considering non-verified health remedies.
Finally, in a singular instance, a consultation fell outside the remit of our service. This rare case involved an inquiry beyond the scope of EU consumer protection, and the consumer was informed accordingly, with no further advice being applicable.
Overall, the Service Juridique strives to inform and empower consumers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge to navigate and tackle unfair practices within the market effectively.
