Weekly Report, 2024-09-02 to 2024-09-08

During the week of September 2nd to September 8th, 2024, the Service Juridique provided consumer consultations through two primary communication channels: reddit and messenger. Over the course of the week, we addressed a total of 18 consultations concerning various consumer rights issues.

The topic of travelers’ rights (air travel) was addressed in five consultations. Consumers were advised on their rights regarding delayed and canceled flights, with a focus on compensation entitlements and how to lodge a formal complaint with the airline.

In four instances, we encountered inquiries related to banking issues. These consultations typically revolved around unexpected charges and account management concerns. Consumers were advised on how to identify potential breaches of contract and on which forms of documentation to present when challenging inappropriate fees.

Nutritional products and their marketing claims were a point of focus across six interactions. The topics of (inadmissible) health claims connected with food and food supplements were particularly prevalent. Consumers were instructed on how to critically assess health labels associated with these products and informed about existing regulatory standards that govern such claims. In cases of misleading information, consumers were guided on the necessary steps to file a report with appropriate regulatory bodies.

The issue of travelers’ rights (train travel) was covered in three consultations, where passengers sought advice on compensation for significant delays and information about their rights concerning ticket cancellations and rebooking procedures.

Throughout the week, no instances were recorded of consultations falling beyond our scope of expertise. Our efforts remain committed to ensuring that consumers receive accurate, actionable advice tailored to the problems presented within the framework of EU consumer protection regulations.
