During the week from 2025-06-30 to 2025-07-06, the “Service Juridique” provided consumer consulting services through various communication channels including messanger and telegram. Over the course of the week, we conducted a total of 18 consultations addressing a range of consumer protection issues.
Throughout the week, unfair business practices were prominently discussed in eight cases. These consultations often dealt with instances where businesses engaged in practices that are blacklisted under EU consumer protection laws. Consumers were generally advised to gather all relevant documentation and to desist from any further transactions until the legality of the business practices could be verified.
We encountered five cases where consumers faced challenges related to e-commerce/distance selling. The primary issues reported included unexpected shipping delays and discrepancies between advertised and delivered products. In these instances, consumers were directed to check the seller’s terms and conditions and advised on how to correctly file complaints to seek refunds or replacements.
In three consultations, the topic of pseudo medicine/health (not related to food) arose. The focus was predominantly on products claiming unfounded health benefits. Consumers were cautioned against the purchase of products lacking verified certifications and advised to report such concerns to relevant health authorities.
Instances of unfair practice (cold calling) were addressed in four cases. Consumers reported being contacted by businesses using aggressive or misleading sales tactics. Our advice included registering for the official do-not-call list and keeping detailed records of unsolicited contact experiences, if necessary, for further action.
Border controls while commuting to or from work formed the basis of two consultations. Although not typically under our jurisdiction, we advised consumers to be aware of their rights under the Schengen Agreement and maintain proper documentation when traveling across borders.
Remarkably, there was only one case where the consultation was unsuccessful due to the issue falling outside our remit. The issue involved the complexities of real estate taxation, which is not within the focus of our agency.
Throughout the week, the “Service Juridique” remained diligent in providing guidance, ensuring consumers were empowered with relevant information to address their concerns effectively within the frameworks available under EU consumer protection laws.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Maas-Rhein.
