During the week from December 1, 2025, to December 7, 2025, the Service Juridique provided a total of 21 consultations to EU consumers. The means of communication utilized included phone calls, video calls, and Mastodon messaging.
The most frequently addressed topic this week was unfair business practices, with eight consultations focusing on issues such as exertion of pressure and unspecified unfair practices. In these instances, consumers were advised on recognizing such practices and offered guidance on asserting their rights under the EU Consumer Rights Directive.
E-commerce and distance selling also featured prominently, discussed in five cases. Consumers were generally advised to be aware of their rights regarding returns and refunds, as well as what constitutes misleading advertising. Additionally, two consultations involved travelers’ rights specifically related to train travel. These consumers received advice on their entitlements regarding delays and cancellations under EU Regulation 1371/2007.
Another pertinent topic was health claims in food products, which was addressed in three consultations. The advisory focused on the validity and evidence supporting such claims, ensuring consumers could verify these before making purchases. GDPR related concerns were raised in two instances, where individuals sought clarification on personal data rights and protection against unauthorized use.
Furthermore, two consultations were concerned with banking issues, where advice was given regarding common practices and understanding terms of agreement with financial institutions. Lastly, food supplements were discussed in one consultation, centering on safety and regulatory compliance of such products.
In one rare instance, a consultation did not proceed due to the issue involving taxation, which falls outside the scope of our agency’s focus. This week, the blend of communication channels enabled us to effectively cater to the diverse needs of consumers across the EU, ensuring they are empowered with the necessary knowledge to safeguard their rights.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang.
