During the week from 2026-04-20 to 2026-04-26, the Service Juridique provided a total of 18 consultations to consumers seeking assistance on various issues. The primary means of communication were video calls and messenger, with several inquiries received via Reddit as well.
Consumers raised concerns about e-commerce/distance selling on five occasions. These consultations frequently involved issues such as delayed deliveries and non-compliance with return policies. In these cases, consumers were advised to familiarize themselves with their rights under the EU Consumer Rights Directive, which provides protections such as a 14-day withdrawal period.
The topics of health claims in food and food supplements were addressed in three separate consultations. In these instances, consumers were encouraged to verify claims against established EU regulations and were advised to contact food safety authorities if they suspected misleading advertising.
There were two sessions focusing on travelers’ rights in air travel, discussing issues like flight delays and cancellations. Consumers were directed to assert their rights as per the EU regulation on air passenger rights, entitling them to compensation or refunds in certain cases.
Five consultations revolved around unfair business practices, such as misleading information. Consumers were informed about the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, which aims to protect them from deceitful business conduct, and advised on how to report such practices to the appropriate bodies if necessary.
Regarding issues of pseudo medicine/health, we handled two cases. These involved complaints about products making unfounded health claims unrelated to food. The consumers were guided on how to critically assess health-related products and were reminded of the importance of consulting with qualified healthcare professionals.
Some queries fell outside our mandate. For instance, one individual inquired about real estate rent, which is beyond our jurisdiction. We strictly deal with matters pertinent to consumer protection within the EU framework.
Overall, the week saw a diverse range of consumer inquiries, with most consultations resulting in consumers being empowered with the knowledge needed to resolve their issues effectively within the scope of EU consumer protection laws.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang.
