During the week from 28th April to 4th May 2025, the Service Juridique received a total of 16 consumer consultations, utilizing various communication channels including messenger, video call, email, and phone. Each consultation was carefully examined to provide the relevant advice and information to consumers regarding their inquiries.
In eight instances, the subject matter involved e-commerce/distance selling. Consumers were primarily concerned with delayed deliveries and unclear return policies. Our advice focused on highlighting the importance of understanding the seller’s terms and conditions, as well as utilizing the right of withdrawal under EU law within the stipulated 14-day period.
Unfair practices were discussed in six consultations, specifically focusing on issues such as misleading information or statements made by businesses. Consumers were guided on how to properly document these instances and report them through appropriate channels within our agency to ensure that such practices are addressed.
There were three consultations concerning food supplements and their associated health claims. Our counsel clarified the types of health claims that are permissible under current EU regulations and advised consumers to report any suspicious claims that may mislead consumers regarding a product’s benefits.
Four inquiries were related to unfair business practices, including practices that fall under and outside of the blacklist. The issues ranged from aggressive sales tactics to unsolicited communication from businesses. We provided advice on consumer rights in such scenarios and how to effectively assert their rights by referencing applicable consumer protection laws.
One case presented involved border controls while commuting to or from work. This particular inquiry was deemed to fall outside the scope of typical consumer protection matters, but the consumer was provided with informational resources related to cross-border mobility within the EU.
Throughout the consultations, our focus remained on equipping consumers with the knowledge and tools necessary to address their issues effectively, thereby enhancing their ability to protect their rights in the marketplace.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
