The weekly report for the period of April 27, 2026, to May 3, 2026, details the consumer consulting activities conducted by the Service Juridique. During this week, a total of 15 consultations were completed. These consultations occurred over various communication channels, including reddit, mastodon, video call, messenger, and phone.
The most common topic of concern was unfair business practices (black listed), which featured in five consultations. Consumers who consulted us on this matter were advised to document all relevant communications with the business in question, and, if applicable, to cease further transactions pending the resolution of their case.
Another significant issue was (inadmissible) health claim (with relation to food), addressed in three cases. Here, consumers were instructed to report these claims to their local health authorities and to avoid purchasing the products in question until completion of the investigation.
In the same period, there were two consultations concerning travelers’ rights (air travel), with discussions revolving around flight cancellations and delays. The advised course of action for these consumers was to review the airline’s compensation policies and lodge formal complaints through specified online forms if necessary.
Border controls (while traveling within Schengen area, not related to commutes to or from work) was a topic for two consultations. Consumers were guided on specific documentation required and reminded of their rights to freedom of movement within the Schengen area.
We engaged in consultations regarding pseudo medicine/health (not related to food) in two instances. In these cases, consumers were urged to conduct thorough research on the efficacy of medical treatments and products from reputable sources and report misleading information to our agency for further investigation.
Lastly, we provided advice on banking in one instance, where the consumer was facing issues related to unauthorized transactions. They were advised to promptly contact their bank’s fraud department and submit claims for unauthorized debit investigations.
During this week, no consultations fell outside our scope or jurisdiction. The Service Juridique remains committed to addressing consumer concerns within the EU, ensuring their rights are upheld and adequately addressing any instances of malpractice or misinformation they might encounter.
This week counseling was provided by WhizzBang Viadrina.
